Gracie's elementary school hosted a mock presidential election yesterday. I swear to you that I have never talked about politics to Gracie and I really don't think she knows who 's going to get my vote. Seriously, does a 5 year old really need to know about the candidates? Here is our conversation over last night's dinner:
Me: Gracie, did they have the election at school today?
Gracie: Yes. I voted for John McCain.
Me: Oh, really. Why did you vote for John McCain?
At this point I was really expecting her to say something childish, like "I don't like the other guy's name" or something of that nature. So I was completely taken aback when she answers.
And I quote her verbatim.
Gracie: Because he has a good OBSERVATION of words and I liked his PRESENTATION on TV. (This is kinda funny to me because Obama is sooooo much the better presenter. And where in the world does this child get these big words?)
Me: Ooooookay. Gracie, do you know who I'm voting for?
Gracie: No, I have no idea.
Me: So, who won the election at school?
Gracie: Ummm, they made an announcement over the intercom and they said that they both got A LOT of votes and it was a tie, so nobody won. Can I have some more candy kisses if I eat all my dinner?
I guess I will have to be having these types of conversations with her long before I thought I would. Ron and I have decided to go back to school!
